The Math Literacy Project is a nonprofit organization, providing a wide range of educational services to Denver-area youth, their families, schools, community centers, and youth organizations. The goal of the Math Literacy Project is to design workshops and learning experiences that link mathematical concept  and skill development to real-world applications.

Mathematics is an essential literacy in the twenty-first century, serving as a gateway subject to many vocational, post-secondary educational, and professional opportunities. Without a proficiency in mathematics literacy, student risk being denied full participation in today's technological society.

Analysis of mathematics achievement in the United States reveals a crisis, particularly for African American and Latino/a students, especially those from low-income families.
